The FDA have now approved the new Dexcom G7 15 day CGM in the US. With the grace period of 12 hours, it offers a more seamless transition when changing sensors and makes this option the CGM with the longest wear-time (Dexcom except implantable devices).

It is approved for people aged 18 years and above with diabetes and has a MARD of 8.0%.

Jake Leach, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Dexcom said:

“The approval of Dexcom G7 15 Day marks another major innovation for Dexcom. By listening to the needs of our users, we’re proud to offer the longest lasting wearable and most accurate CGM, giving people the knowledge to better control their diabetes with our best-in-class technology. This milestone sets a new standard in CGM and is a testament to our continued leadership in glucose biosensing. We look forward to bringing it to market in the second half of this year, but in the meantime, we encourage our users to upgrade to our current G7 system to gain the benefits of the most connected CGM brand in the world.”

The extension of wear-time to the G7 will enable Dexcom to compete with Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus and 3 Plus CGM and offers some features highly-prized by those managing diabetes, such as being waterproof (a rating of IP68) and direct-to-Apple watch option.

The 15-day wear G7 is on course to be launched in the US in the second half of 2025. Dexcom have confirmed that a new prescription will be needed and they are working to ensure pump compatibility for those using the CGM for AID systems.
